This thesis by Dr. Harry Frankfurt, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Princeton University is excellent and very useful to understand recent global phenomena such as the post-truth era, Trump's rise to power, "sustainability" and others...
Frankfurt says on page 15:
"Thus the production of bullshit is stimulated whenever a person’s obligations or opportunities to speak about some topic are more excessive than his knowledge of the facts that are relevant to that topic"
This is so true both for sustainability's discourse in academia/elsewhere and in Trumpland these days.
